 Leadership Thinking

Speaker - Mike Bell

This is a great introduction presentation to the concepts and principles of leadership. In this interactive review and discussion we will review some key attributes of leadership to ensure understanding and so everyone has an understanding. There will be a discussion on the characteristics of leadership. There will be discussions on situational leadership, objective thinking and change management. We will discuss why character, personal satisfaction and managing fear are important. We will talk about why taking responsibility and helping others is important. Then wrap it up with conclusions and a Q & A period. Participants should be able to understand and know how to apply these leadership skills with practice immediately.

Mike is working as a Global Operations, Supply Chain, and Procurement Consultant specializing in assisting clients with improving supply chain performance and reducing costs since 2012. He has led 4 successful Lean Implementations and has taught or led multiple Lean 6 Sigma Training Workshops. He worked at Hewlett Packard from 1988 to 2012 as the Materials Director, Director of Data Management Operations Management, CNX Div. Purchasing and Planning Manager, BCS New Products Supply Chain Materials Manager and as BCS Outsourcing and Contract Manufacturing Manager. Prior to working for Hewlett-Packard, he worked for Texas Instruments in various operations and materials management positions in the semiconductor and computer divisions. His responsibilities at TI included material planning and distribution; managing Quality Improvement Teams; and earning a 6 Sigma Black Belt.

Mike graduated Cum Laude with degrees from St. Edwards University majoring in Business Management and Finance. Mike has been an APICS member since the early '80s in locations like Houston, College Station, Austin, and Dallas, Texas. He has served on the North Texas APICS Chapter Board since 1992 and is currently serving as an advisor. Mike has also served on the APICS Terra Grande Staff, responsible for chapter development. SCM Industry Advisory Board serving as an advisor for the Masters in Supply Chain program for UT Dallas. He is/has been a member of other professional societies.  

Many of Mike's activities at H-P have been published in Electronics Purchasing, Purchasing Magazine, and Electronic Buyer's News. Mike speaks frequently at seminars and conferences and leads a Lean Workshop in several US locations. Besides enjoying his family and dogs, Mike enjoys yard work, gardening, swimming, golf, fishing, most water sports, running and motor sports. He is active in the community and other local organizations.
