Supply chain management has been evolving over the last 20 years.  Emphasizing the physical flow of materials, it was not until 2010 that the first correct graphic of a supply chain was published in the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management.  Wow!  How do you manage and improve something if you do not even know what it looks like?  While there is still much opportunity managing the physical flows, strategic supply chain managers are turning their attention to the low hanging fruit of financial flows.

PRESENTER BIO:

M. Theodore (Ted) Farris II, Ph.D., CTL
Dr. Ted Farris is currently a Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Charn Uswachoke International Scholar at the University of North Texas located in Denton, Texas. 

He was named an Austrian-American Fulbright Scholar in 2008, the 2nd Fulbright Scholar ever named in the field of logistics and was resident at the Fachhochschul Studiengang Produktions-und-Managementtechnik in Steyr, Austria.  He is the Senior Researcher at FH-Steyr Logistikum, one of the top supply chain research centers in Europe.

Dr. Farris has over 120 publications domestically and internationally in many of the top ranked journals in his field.   A recent Transportation Journal article examined authorship in the seven leading logistics journals from 1990 to 2009.  Dr. Farris ranked 17th out of 3,657 different authors. 

Dr. Farris started the industry-focused logistics program at the University of North Texas in 1997.  At the time there were no logistics programs in the DFW area.  Now there are 7.  The UNT program is currently ranked 5th globally by the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management and 3rd overall for Supply Chain Technology education by Inbound Logistics

Prior to joining academia, he was employed with International Business Machines and INTEL Corporations.
