WASTE IN A LEAN WORLD “A LEAN JOURNEY THROUGH THE WASTELANDS”

Waste in a Lean World will be a journey through the wastelands of the Lean transformation. We will discuss what Lean is and its attributes.  We will look at “MUDA” and the differences between necessary and unnecessary waste. We will cover the benefits of waste elimination, the impact on customer satisfaction, and address setting the priorities of what to work on.  We will address in detail the various types of processes and defining each will lead to discussions on how each should be addressed for any non-value add elimination.  Many process improvement methods will be offered and reviewed. We will look at the 6 Sigma tool kit and review at what stage each should be considered for utilization.  Everyone will leave the presentation prepared to be a “Change Agent” to identify and eliminate waste back in their workplace!

Bio:

Mike is a Global Operations, Supply Chain, and Procurement Consultant specializing in assisting clients with improving supply chain performance and reducing costs since 2012.  He has been an APICS member since the early '80s in locations like Houston, College Station, Austin, and Dallas, Texas. He has served on the North Texas APICS Chapter Board since 1992 and is currently serving as an advisor. Mike has also served on the APICS Terra Grande Staff, responsible for chapter development.  SCM Industry Advisory Board serving as an advisor for the Masters in Supply Chain program for UT Dallas.  

He has lead 4 successful Lean Implementations and has taught or lead multiple Lean 6 Sigma Training Workshops.  He worked at Hewlett Packard from 1988 to 2012 as the Materials Director, Director of Data Management Operations Management, CNX Div. Purchasing and Planning Manager, BCS New Products Supply Chain Materials Manager and as BCS Outsourcing and Contract Manufacturing Manager. Many of Mike's activities at H-P have been published in Electronics Purchasing, Purchasing Magazine, and Electronic Buyer's News.  Prior to working for Hewlett-Packard, he worked for Texas Instruments in various operations and materials management positions in the semiconductor and computer divisions. His responsibilities at TI included material planning and distribution; and managing Quality Improvement Teams.   

Mike graduated Cum Laude with degrees from St. Edwards University majoring in Business Management and Finance.  He speaks frequently at seminars and conferences and leads a Lean Workshop in several US locations.  Besides enjoying his family and dogs, Mike enjoys yard  work, gardening, swimming, golf, fishing, most water sports, running and motor sports.
