Topic: Transformation of Healthcare Supply Chain

Health care supply chains are complex with many links in the chain that obscure the direct connection between manufacturer and customer.  Inventories are often bloated and process can tend to be manual as technology investment has lagged.  Healthcare costs in the US are disproportionally high compared to the key outcomes such as life expectancy.  Healthcare supply chain is ripe for change.  I joined the team from a career in manufacturing ops/ supply chain specifically to rethink and redesign the healthcare supply chain.

In the past 4 years we have taken Baylor Scott and White on a journey to reinvent the supply chain services systems, processes, and culture. We have truly raised the bar.    I am very proud to say that we have even been recognized in the Gartner Top 25 Best Healthcare Supply Chain teams for the first time in 2020!  I will share a few of the many changes in technology, process and strategy that we have made along the way to improve our effectiveness, efficiencies and deliver significant value to the business.

Pamela Wiseman is the Vice President Supply Chain Operations, Performance Management, Systems and Analytics Baylor Scott & White, a $10 Billion Not-for-Profit Healthcare System with headquarters in Dallas, Texas. In this role, Pam oversees the Supply Chain Performance Management Process/Key Metrics, Hospital Supply Chain, Project Management, Supply Chain Systems, Master Data, Inventory Strategy/Management, Strategic Communications and Customer Service for the BSW Health System. She has also been responsible for Supply Chain Procurement in the recent past.

Prior to joining BSWH, Pam was the Executive Leader of Global Materials for GE Transportation. In this role she was responsible for all materials functions around the world within the Global Supply Chain of GE Transportation. Prior to joining the leadership team at GE, Pam was Senior Director of Supply Chain Planning for the Covidien Group of Medtronic plc. In this role, Pam led the development of supply chain and inventory strategies to optimize inventory levels and materials management across the network of Global manufacturing facilities and Distribution centers. Pam moved her family to Texas from the Northeastern US specifically to join the team at BSWH and to apply her skills and experience to the mission of transforming healthcare supply chain.

Pam has more than 20 years of experience in Supply Chain/Operations in Aerospace, Electronics, Industrial Automation and Medical Devices and has traveled to 24 countries for both business and leisure. Pam has also held roles as Vice President of Global Operations for high-tech electronics manufacturer LeCroy Corporation and as Executive Director of Global Raw Materials at United Technologies. At LeCroy, she overhauled the supply chain and manufacturing operations, started up outsourced production with partners in the US and Asia and lead the integration of several acquisitions.

Prior to that, she held manufacturing and supply chain leadership positions in Operations/Field Service at Universal Instruments, Sikorsky Aircraft and R&D positions at the MITRE Corporation and AT&T Bell Laboratories.

Pam has an ScB in Geology/Physics Mathematics from Brown University, an MSEE from the University of Rhode Island and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School- she is also APICSs certified and recertified 3 times.

Pam is active in STEM and is a member of the STEM Advisory Board for the NTX Girl Scouts. Pam is an active mentor and often speaks to college and graduate students – most recently at Baylor University and UT Dallas.
